Alford asked about EOC and devices for testing. Ed responded that we will have to stop instruction in any classroom that is a lab, so that we can use the computers for testing. Testnav is going browser based. We have to see if this is true and if this will work. How do you prevent a student from exiting the test.

Lotus 8.5 currently is 2 years old, when is the next upgrade? when is 9 coming out.... response: 8.3 is upgrade; Ed responded that Garner recommendation was to upgrade one last time in house.... Gartner says that cloud will become a move viable solution in 2014....If recommendation is Lotus, then the commitment is short-term.Will Lotus go to html5? Will Lotus keep up? Ed says that "there is no quesiton that there is a guarantee." They must keep up with current browser based. Will RRISD keep up? IBM has a cloud-based Lotus solution. We are not looking at that.
Filtering: currently 3 filters, what is limit with 8.5. Can you add more options? Jerry thinks we can duplicate code and add another box.
Guidance Counselors and SpEd - documentation is very important..... if we switch, do they lose archived mail folders
Archiving process - very complicated. Is it simpler in 8.5? It is not easier, but using a district wide solution for archiving. Ed talked about size of emails. We limit size because attachments are duplicated multiple times. With 8.5 attachments only exist once - only stored in 1 location. We would need to look at how to keep archived folders until student graduates. We would also need to replicate central repository.
Web-based address book is out there.... sharing contacts.. vcard in 8.5, typing in name autogenerates the people in the address book;
the contacts are not automatic in the
Lotus Traveler: contacts, mail, calendar, ?? to do's??

- Procedures for mounting tech hardware on walls (Jan)
Alan Albers sent email to principals. All wall mountings must be done by maintenance or JOC. Campus personnel, ITS, and parents are not allowed to mount on walls.
To mount a projector in the ceiling is $1904. Includes hardware, brackets, pipes, electrician, plate on wall($65), 2 speakers, cabling, rapid run cable, cable to speakers, personnel to do the work. This is what we have paid for each classroom that has a mounted projector.
Question about short-throw projectors. We only use them when we can't mount from the ceiling. i.e. Berkman library had to have short-throw mount.
Can we tilt projectors if we want to go back and add an electronic whiteboard? You will have to contract to move the projector forward one tile. We have oved the projectors forward at Union Hill, Callison. Convergence usually does this. Approximate cost to move projector forward is approximately $100 (not IMS). If you have to call electrician, then the price will go up. The workers will move projector forward and readjust projector. Better to call in projector movement after board is mounted.
In the process of adding projectors to cafeterias and middle school lecture halls, We have done LO and DP, have po's for Deepwood, Old Town, Fern Bluff and GOE. Walking Gattis, Voigt, Blackland, and Forest Creek. Current pricing is for low ceiling and rear projection screen mounts. No prices yets for hanging from poles in lecture halls. Classrooms with high ceilings will keep using the cart solution.
Projector lamps - Ed will provide as long as possible
Doc camera lamps - Tech Ops is replacing those???
Filters on doc cameras - tech ops cleaned last summer, no schedule? / at Union Hill one person on team is responsible for cleaning filters; Jan will check with Ed about a schedule,
Wireless carts - group week.... Friday at end of school day, have carts to be refreshed in a single location (email Jan the location); have keys taped, transfer to fixed assets done and on the cart. If you are refreshing laptops and not netbooks, work with Jan. On Monday, warehouse picks up carts, Jan's group gets new cart ready, on Friday warehouse picks up carts and brings them to campus. Some exceptions may happen with the schedule. Printers - take printers off cart. If Cart is going away, remove printer. If cart is staying, then leave printer as is.
Laptop cart refresh is through 1st week in Jan.
Then launch into spring campus refreshes... SPHS and then 15 elementaries. We will not finish if we lose a week.
Samsung Galaxy... still recommending that one, but don't buy it yet. Looking for a solution to deploy, manage and secure. Have looked at 2 companies. Will look at 3rd company.
